MRA donates mattresses, health equipment to Mothers’
As a responsible corporate citizen, the Malawi Revenue Authority on Saturday, 7th October, 2017 participated in this year’s Mothers’ Fun Run and donated various medical equipment aimed at improving maternal health.
The items included 35 mattresses, an Oxygen Concentrator, 2 baby-weighing scales and a medium sterilizing drum.
Mothers' Fun Run is an annual activity organised by the Nation Publications Limited (NPL) to mobilize funds for the procurement of maternal and neo-natal healthcare equipment for public hospitals.
This year’s donations have been made to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital QECH and 26 health centres under the Blantyre District Health Office.
On behalf of MRA staff, Pauline Drennon from the Customs and Excise Division said Malawi’s well being and future rests in healthy mothers and children hence the Authority’s commitment to safe motherhood.
NPL’s Chief Executive Officer Mbumba Banda presented MRA an award of recognition for the donation and commended all partners for their commitment to improve maternal health in Malawi.
Guest of Honour at the event was British High Commissioner Holly Tett. Also in attendance were Blantyre City Mayor Wild Ndipo, Blantyre District Commissioner Brighton Nkasala including several other senior officials from the Government and private sector.
NPL has consistently been conducting the Mothers’ Day Fun Run for the past 13 years and MRA participates in the cause.
Last year, the fun run was conducted in Mzimba and medical items were donated to the district’s health office to alleviate maternal challenges in public hospitals and health centres.
