Kuiphula Ndi Lisiti Langa Campaign still ongoing
Members of the general public still have a chance to earn K40,000 cash
rewards instantly per report through the 'Kuiphula Ndi Lisiti Langa'
campaign which is still ongoing, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has
said.
Speaking on Wednesday in an interview with the press on the sidelines of
the Central Region New Tax Measures Training jointly organised with
Bwaila Media Club in Lilongwe, MRA Head of Corporate Affairs Steven
Kapoloma emphasised that the campaign has been extended
from May 31 because of the overwhelming response from the public.
"From the month of March to May this year, we have paid cash rewards of
over K25 million under the campaign that has earned MRA revenue of over
K340 million. Most importantly, the public is assiting to grow a culture
of demanding receipts in the country, therefore,
MRA management has decided to continue the 'Kuiphula Ndi Lisiti Langa'
campaign.

"We are calling on everyone to always demand EFD receipts and report
cases of non-issuance that will earn them instant cash rewards of
K40,000 if they are in the four cities of Mzuzu, Zomba, Lilongwe and
Blantyre," Kapoloma said.
The offences that qualify to be reported under the campaign include
cases where; a fiscal receipt is issued but not reflecting the correct

MRA says it is now very certain that the Kuiphula ndi Lisiti Langa
campaign will sustain raising awareness among buyers on the importance
of demanding EFD receipts while concurrently reminding VAT registered
businesses of their obligations to issue EFD receipts
for every sale.
The Authority has again reminded VAT registered traders that under
Section 46 of the VAT Act, failure to issue an EFD receipt attracts a
minimum penalty of K500,000.
During the New Tax Measures training session, Kapoloma urged members of
the press to always file factful news reports on matters of tax and MRA
operations.
"We have been fully empowered by the Commissioner General, Mr John
Biziwick to timely provide facts about taxes and MRA operations. Feel
free to contact us and, as we always do, we will provide you with the
required information timely," he said.
Bwaila Media Club Secretary General Andrew Massa said Journalists in the
country are eager to learn more about tax obligations and new
developments in MRA.
"This is the first time that as a tax collector, MRA is going across the
country to directly engage media practitioners about New Tax Measures
and providing insights when it comes to actual tax calculations plus
operations. We are very grateful to MRA for taking
this approach as many Journalists will now provide the public well
grounded stories about tax," Massa said.
The training in Lilongwe was offered by an MRA delegation comprising
Deputy Commissioner Domestic Taxes—Operations Janet Kholowa, Head of
Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma, Deputy Commissioner
Customs—Enforcement Abigail Kawamba and MRA Media Specialist Henry
Mchazime.
After separately engaging editors in Mangochi and Northern Region based
media practitioners in Mzuzu, the Authority is expected to finalise the
media training sessions in the Southern Region.
