The Lisiti Langa Promotion has led to more
interaction about Valued Added Tax (VAT) and EFD receipts among members of the
general public in the country and MRA. This is in addition to participation in
the raffle draw.
The Authority's
Manager for Marketing Communication Wilma Chalulu said this during the 11th weekly draw of the promotion at
Msonkho House in Blantyre on Friday 27 July.
“MRA launched the Lisiti Langa Raffle Draw
Promotion to assist in growing a culture of demanding receipts amongst consumers
in the country. We have so far received over 700,000 entries and it is
encouraging that people are engaging us more on EFDs and VAT,” Chalulu said.
She said apart from
the entries, MRA conducted roadshows across all regions of the country where
instant prizes were dished out and people were further sensitised to ensure
that the EFD receipts which they demand has the right items printed.
“Demanding EFD
receipts ensures that the VAT, which we all pay when buying items,is rightly
channelled to development initiatives being implemented by Government.
“The prices in our
shops include VAT. Therefore, no one should be cheated that buying items
without collecting receipts is cheap. It only means that the one selling has
pocketed your VAT. This is why we are encouraging the culture of demanding EFD
receipts in the promotion,” she said.
One of the winners in
the promotion, Lameck Kanyika from Karonga, said he always insists on getting
an EFD receipts which he verifies on spot.
“If the shop refuses
to give me a receipt, I don’t buy from them,” he said
The Grand Draw for
