The
Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has concluded a groundbreaking TEVET Levy sensitization
and TEVET Levy Assessment System (TLAS) portal orientation campaign that targeted
PAYE operators across the country who are not yet registered for the levy.
The
exercise was conducted from 8th to 15th August 2025
and covered Domestic Taxes stations such as`Mchinji, Nkhotakota, Lilongwe, Mzuzu,
Mangochi, Zomba and Mulanje.
Allan
Nyallo, Non?Tax Revenue Officer, said at one of the stations that the
initiative was aimed at increasing awareness of the levy obligations and
introduce TLAS.
He
added that after the exercise, operators were expected to learned how the TLAS
portal streamlines levy registration, simplifies filings and calculates the
mandatory 1% basic payroll contribution.
One
participant, Benson Kondowe, from Mthunzi Private School in Mchinji, commended
MRA for the sensitization.
“We
appreciate the Authority’s proactive engagement of bringing us on board. It truly
makes us feel included and supported in embracing TEVET levy compliance,” said
Khondowe with a lot of enthusiasm.
In
2015, TEVATA surrendered the collection of tevet levy to MRA and the annual
revenue collections have been increasing.
