MRA donates cash, relief items to flood victims

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has donated cash and relief items valued at over K23 million to assist Malawians affected by floods.

Commissioner General Tom Gray Malata handed over the donation to Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi in Lilongwe.

The items included 500 bales of sugar, 299 bags of maize flour weighing 25kgs each and 400 bags of salt weighing 50kgs each.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, MRA would like to reach out to our brothers and sisters affected by the floods and this afternoon we are making this humble donation.

“We hope the relief items we are donating today will go a long way towards alleviating the suffering of the people affected by floods,” Malata said.

The salt, sugar and maize flour were seized and forfeited when importers committed various offences under the Customs and Excise Act including smuggling and importation of restricted goods without licence.
