The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has encouraged stakeholders in the economy including learning institutions, clinics as well as religious organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to utilize various Customs Procedures Codes (CPCs) to import goods from outside the country at a lesser cost.
Opening a workshop with learning institutions and clinics in Lilongwe recently, Mc Hizzal Kawanga, Manager Taxpayer Education, informed the participants that the Government had introduced a lot of CPCs in order to enable them import goods at a lesser cost.
On this note, he appealed to the participants to take advantage of the workshops that MRA was conducting in various parts of the country to understand the CPCs that affect their trade.
‘Please, take advantage of these workshops to learn more about the tax incentives that are on offer and grow your businesses,” appealed Kawanga.
Speaking on behalf of the participants during one of the workshops, Chawala Simon Liwinga of the Medical Council of Malawi, said the meeting was an eye opener for them because most of his members did not have prior knowledge about CPCs available for them and commended MRA for holding the workshop.
“We need more of these meetings on regular basis to enable us learn more about taxation so that we operate our businesses in line with the law,” added Liwinga.
