MRA engages Motor Bike taxi operators

The Association of Motor Bike and Cycle Owners in Malawi has commended the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) for working hand in hand with their Association for the common good of the country.

The sentiments were made recently in Zomba by the President of the Motor Bike and Cycle Owners Association Limited, Michael Mkumba, during a stakeholder meeting.

He observed that there are many accidents that involve motor and push bike operators in the country and as such there was need for collaborative efforts among different stakeholders to address the challenge.

He added that most of the motor cycles are also imported and it was for this reason that we should always engage MRA to ensure that our clients operate within the law. ‘’I am, therefore, appealing to MRA, the Malawi Police Service and the Malawi Road Traffic and Driving School Association of Malawi to work together for us to fully achieve the objectives for which our Association was established.

In her response at the meeting, Rosemary Likandawe, Station Manager Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team (FAST) for the Southern region, assured the Association that MRA considers cycle taxi operators as key partners in national development and will ensure that they have a lot of information and knowledge on customs processes and procedures relating to importation of motor cycles.
