MRA interacts with tobacco farmers
The Malawi Revenue Authority recently participated in the 2019 TAMA Area meetings that were conducted in all the three regions of the country.
TAMA held twenty-one meetings and MRA attended all the meetings on invitation, to facilitate tax issues at the meetings.
The average attendance at each meeting was one thousand tobacco farmers. This means that the Authority interacted with 21, 000 at the end of the exercise.
This year’s meetings were very special because TAMA was celebrating ninety years of existence in Malawi.
Apart from drilling the farmers on how Withholding tax is operated and administered, MRA also took the opportunity to make a presentation on how tax refunds are processed and what the farmers needed to do in order for their refunds to be processed on time.
In her remarks at the launch of the meetings at Nanyangu in Ntcheu, Mrs. Hilda Mkandawire, Public Relations Officer, thanked TAMA for inviting MRA to the meetings.
She then commended the farmers for paying taxes voluntarily last year and urged them to continue doing the same in the current year.
During the meetings, farmers expressed their gratitude to MRA for processing their tax refunds timely and said they were excited with MRA’s performance.
They, however, requested the Authority to consider producing calendars specially for them because they contain tax information which is very important to them.
