The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has scooped an ICT award for its exceptional public service delivery.
The ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) awarded MRA the Corporate ICT Innovation Award for Public Service Delivery on Thursday at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre
ICTAM President Bram Funzulani said the award was in recognition of MRA’s initiation and implementation of various ICT innovations.
ICTAM called for nominations among ICT professionals for companies, organisations and government agencies who had achieved a noticeable and remarkable ICT innovation in different categories.
“The type of innovations is those that have changed the lives of people and service delivery to clients and the general public. MRA has been selected as the best in the public service category,” Funzulani said.
Guest of honour at the event, Minister of Information and Communication Technologies Mark Botomani said ICT is critical because it is an enabler of social economic development.
“It is for this
reason that the Malawi Government launched an ICT Policy to facilitate the
promotion and penetration of ICT in Malawi,” he said.
Receiving the award on behalf on the Commissioner General Tom Malata, the Director of ICT Max Mlomba expressed gratitude to ICT professionals for recognizing MRA’s innovations.
“This is a morale booster for us and the ICT Division at MRA will continue to come up with various innovations to improve service delivery,” Mlomba said.
MRA has been championing various ICT innovations and they include ePayments, document validation and it will soon be piloting Msonkho Online, a platform which will enable taxpayers to pay taxes and file returns online.
