The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently conducted a taxation workshop with Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) from Mulanje and beyond.
The meeting was organized to discuss the need for the target audiences to submit tax returns and pay taxes on time. The Authority also drilled the participants on how they can register for tax using Msonkho Online portal, among other things.
Speaking on behalf of the Station Manager for Mulanje, Mapemphero Limbe, Revenue Officer, said that MRA had organized the meeting to fill some information and knowledge gaps some businesses had on taxation.
“I, therefore, request you to ask as many questions as possible so that you should understand how various taxes are operated and administered. This will enable you to operate your businesses in line with the tax regulations,” said Limbe.
He then added that MRA will be holding such meetings more regularly in order to enhance compliance among the business people of the district and beyond.
In his response at the end of the meeting, a representative of the traders, Manager of Hapuwani Village Lodge in Mulanje, thanked MRA for the workshop saying it was an eye opener for the business community as most of them had acquired vital information that will enable them to improve their compliance with the law.
During the interface meeting, the Authority also addressed issues the taxpayers raised including on how MRA can improve tax administration.
The workshop was attended by participants from Mulanje district and the surrounding districts of Thyolo, Phalombe and Chiradzulu.
