The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is reminding the business community and the public that the Voluntary Compliance Window (VCW) is still open till 31st October, 2020. The window offers opportunity for taxpayers to settle their tax arrears and other tax obligations through instalments without paying penalty, interest or any charges.
The VCW has been running from 8th April 2020 to 31st October 2020 and as of now, many people have already taken part in the window and have fully benefitted from the facility. You can apply by completing a VCW Application form that can be accessed from the MRA website www.mra.mw. Completed forms can be uploaded on to the web site or sent to email address: vcw@mra.mw. You may also submit your application to your nearest MRA office.
Therefore, MRA is encouraging all businesses, corporate organizations and individuals who are eligible to apply including those:
i. Not registered with MRA yet but have transactions that were supposed to be taxed but were not or have transactions that are supposed to be taxed but are not being taxed
ii. Registered but not filing tax return(s) and not paying taxes due
iii. Registered but filing incorrect returns
iv. Registered and filing tax return(s) but became non-compliant - was hiding some transactions
v. Filing and assessed but have tax arrears
vi. Not declaring imports (smuggling)
vii. Misclassifying or under-declaring of importation for duty purposes
The Authority wishes to remind taxpayers to attach supporting documents to their application such as tax returns, income statement, notice of assessment, tax schedules and Form C132 for Customs to enable MRA conduct proper assessment of the tax liability.
