RESTRICTIONS ON SUGAR IMPORTS INTO MALAWI

RESTRICTIONS ON SUGAR IMPORTS INTO MALAWI

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) would like to remind the business community and public that the importation of sugar into Malawi is restricted under the provisions of the Control of Goods Act.

Restricted imports are goods which may be imported in pursuance of a license or permit issued by or on behalf of a competent authority hence the importation of sugar requires an import license from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

Anyone found importing sugar, or any other restricted import, without an import license will be liable to prosecution in accordance with the law.

Against this background, the Authority is appealing to the business community and the public to apply for an import license before importing sugar or any other restricted product into Malawi.
A full list of restricted imports into Malawi which require import licenses can be downloaded from the MRA website, www.mra.mw, by using the following link; https://bit.ly/2H2HBAW
