The meeting, which centred at procedures of tax payments, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs), took place at Msonkho House in Blantyre.
The Authority’s Deputy Commissioner Domestic Taxes—Technical, Crosby Phiri commended MABCATA for their interest to know more about taxes.
“MRA is always open to impart the required skills and knowledge about taxation to taxpayers and members of the general public. I commend MABCATA for taking the initiative to engage us because we work for and with the people of Malawi,” said Phiri.
Presentations covering types of taxes, how taxes should be paid, tax clearance certificate, corrective measures in cases of non-compliance and VAT were made by Manager for EFD Bentry Khonje and Taxpayer Service, Technical and Appeals Manager, Nancy Mwale
The team leader for MBCATA, Wickley Mhango, said the association goal is to have more tax compliant members in the construction industry.
“We are grateful that MRA accorded us the time to discuss taxes and get more insights on our roles as the construction industry, more especially as indigenous contractors. The industry is keen to see to it that its players are tax compliant at all times,” Mhango said.
