MRA donates cooking oil to patients, prisoners

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently donated 150 gallons of cooking oil to three hospitals and a prison to assist patients and prisoners respectively, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre received 70 gallons, Mulanje District Hospital and Thyolo District Hospital received 30 gallons each while Chichiri Prison in Blantyre also received 20 gallons.

Receiving the gallons on behalf of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, the Acting Deputy Hospital Director Linley Chewere expressed her gratitude to MRA for making the donation.

“It is a privilege and a great joy for me and the entire staff to extend a vote of thanks to Malawi Revenue Authority for the kind gesture you have shown to us through this donation. Please, know that your generosity will help Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in its effort to provide nutritious food and others needs to patients,’’she said.

Thyolo District Hospital also expressed gratitude to MRA for donating the cooking oil. “We would like to thank MRA for this timely and important donation as the institution is facing great challenges in as far as funding is concerned,” Hospital Administrator a Mr. S Linde said.

On his part, the Hospital Administrator for Mulanje District Hospital a Mr. Chimatiro was also full of praises for MRA.

“We thank the executive management of the MRA and staff for this kind gesture and I urge the Authority to consider assisting us in future,’’ prayed Chimatiro.

The General Duties Officer at Chichiri Prison Mr. Maxwell Kamowa hailed MRA for the donation and hoped that more donations will be made to assist prisoners, adding that the prison received the donation at a time they were facing a lot of challenges feeding the inmates.

MRA confiscated the 150 gallons of cooking oil recently at Muloza Border in Mulanje District from some unpatriotic business people who were attempting to smuggle the commodity into the country..

The importation of cooking oil is controlled under the Control of Goods Act of 1968 and those caught without proper documentation will forfeit the oil to Government.
