MRA engages SMEs on filing tax returns
The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently held taxation workshops with SMEs from 25th April 2018 to 11th May 2018 in order to explain and clarify the importance of compiling and submitting tax returns to MRA when due.
The workshops also discussed the importance of remitting taxes on time and in full, among other issues. The first workshop was held at Annies Lodge in Zomba on Wednesday, 25th April 2018.
Further than that, MRA covered areas the operation and administration of Pay as You Earn (PAYE), Withholding Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT).
It also tackled procedures on how to pay tax electronically and the importance of demanding fiscal receipts whenever taxable goods have been purchased.
MRA held similar workshops in Blantyre, Nsanje, Mangochi, Kasungu, Mchinji, Lilongwe, Salima, Dwangwa Mzuzu, Karonga, and Chitipa.
The average attendance at each workshop was fifty participants and the audiences expressed their gratitude to MRA for holding the workshops.
They, however, urged the Authority to arrange many meetings of such nature so as to increase their knowledge on matters related to taxation.
Nancy Mwale, Manager Taxpayer Service and Hilda Mkandawire, Public Relations Officer from Corporate Affairs represented MRA at the workshops. These were joined by officers from the stations.
MRA is currently conducting an intensive awareness campaign employing several strategies like TV and radio programmes, print media methodologies and outreach activities like workshops and road shows, just to mention a few.
