MRA supports orphanages

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility Policy (CSR), MRA on Friday 5th August, 2016, donated items worth K1.8 million to two orphan care centres in Chikwawa and Blantyre.

Led by the Commissioner General, Mr. Tom Gray Malata, the Authority respectively donated 175 tins of Lactogen 1 and 2 and 86 packets of Likuni Phala to Ngabu based Pashello Charity Trust and Open Arms Orphanage.

“The President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika emphasises on assisting each other in times of need, especially the underprivileged. These children require our love and care, most of all the future of this country lies in them.

“As a tax collecting body we see in them future taxmen and taxpayers. That is why we had to come and avail these items. Our interest is for the medium to long term,” he said.

The CG commended the centres for their undivided attention to care and raise the children.

In her remarks, Pashello Charity Trust Director Felia Malola expressed gratitude for the donation and appealed for more support from the society at large.

She said the centre was established in 2011 with the aim of protecting and assisting the underprivileged. Currently it looks after over 150 children who are physically challenged, blind and orphans.

Open Arms Director, Neville Bevis was thankful for MRA’s donation saying they care for day-old abandoned babies who most of the times are undernourished.

He said Open Arms makes sure that the children receive adequate education with some currently enrolled at the Kamuzu Academy.
