Treasury engages MRA on draft bills
The Director of the Revenue Policy Division in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning & Development, Mr. Kenneth Matupa, has underscored the need for reviewing revenue laws of the land with a view to match regional and international modern practices.
Matupa made the sentiments in Blantyre recently when he opened a day-long sensitization meeting on Tax Administration and Revenue Appeals Tribunal Bills for MRA senior managers.

He observed that issues to do with taxation are dynamic and at the same time complex and it was only proper that the Government of Malawi should regularly review the revenue laws to suit the private sector and the entire citizenry as one way of increasing tax compliance.
“Which is why,” he added, “the Ministry, a few months ago undertook a benchmarking exercise in neighbouring countries in order to learn from them so that we can improve upon tax administration in the country.”
Therefore, take this workshop more seriously as your positive contributions will be incorporated into the tax laws of the land,’’ he urged, his tone with an aura of confidence that the two bills will be tabled and passed in Parliament soon.
In his response, on behalf of the Commissioner General, the Deputy Commissioner Domestic Taxes responsible for Msonkho Online, Mr. Peter Chikabadwa, applauded Treasury for sharing with MRA the contents of the two draft bills, which he said were coming at the right time when MRA was improving service delivery through the provision of electronic services and other modern products to serve the customer much better than before.
The day-long meeting attracted 40 participants drawn from Blantyre and other key MRA stations in the Southern region.
A team of financial and legal technocrats from Treasury facilitated at the workshop.
