The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has called upon the
media houses in the country to promulgate the benefits of Msonkho Online.
Speaking during the official opening of the Msonkho
Online Media Training Workshop held in Lilongwe recently, MRA Projects
Communication Manager, Henry Mchazime, called for strategic partnership between
MRA and the media houses in the country in enhancing public awareness on tax
issues especially Msonkho Online.
He said MRA was committed to ensuring that all tax
knowledge and skills are shared with members of the press to strengthen their
capacity to promote the usage of Msonkho Online which was introduced to reduce
the cost of compliance among businesses in the country.
Mchazime reminded the media that MRA introduced
Msonkho Online, a web-based system, in 2021 to enable taxpayers access the
system for tax registration, filing returns, and payments of taxes twenty-four
hours a day in the comfort of their homes or offices.
‘’But up to now some businesses are not on Msonkho
Online and this is why MRA organized this media training so that you
journalists can use your acumen to disseminate the message to such people and
reap the benefits of the system,’’ added Mchazime.
One participant, Alinafe Nyanda of Chisomo Radio
Station in Lilongwe, applauded MRA for holding the training which he said had
come at the right time and will support the Authority in selling Msonkho Online
and enlist more people in the system.
The regional media training is being supported by the
GIZ Malawi under Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management
(PFEM-Tikuze Malawi Project.
