The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is conducting a
series of media trainings across the country on Msonkho Online. The first
session took place in Blantyre on Monday, 11 August 2025, with subsequent
sessions planned for Lilongwe and Mzuzu on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
The trainings aim to interface with reporters about
Msonkho Online, highlighting its benefits to taxpayers and other stakeholders.
Speaking during the Blantyre session, Henry Mchazime, Manager for Projects
Communication and the representative of the Acting Head of Corporate Affairs,
said MRA is committed to ensuring that all taxpayers are knowledgeable about
taxes and tax laws.
“As MRA, we always want all taxpayers to understand
their tax obligations to help reduce tax evasion, which has been a challenge
for us for a long time,” Mchazime stated. “That is why we invited journalists
from various media houses to train them about Msonkho Online, a system that
taxpayers have been using for some time but where usage gaps remain. We believe
that, by the end of these trainings, these gaps and challenges will be
addressed.”
The trainings, supported by GIZ through the
Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management (PFEM – Tikuze Malawi
Project), have drawn participants from major media houses including Zodiak
Broadcasting Station, Times Group, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, Malawi News
Agency, and various community radios.
