The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is informing all exporters, importers, manufacturers, producers, clearing agents and the general public that the Authority is now issuing electronic certificates of origin under both the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) Trade Protocols. The electronic certificate (e-certificate) of origin is an electronically processed and issued certificate of origin, attesting that the goods to which the certificate relate originate in the country in conformity with rules of origin. The e-certificate of origin system allows manufactures, producers and exporters to electronically register their goods for preferential treatment and apply for a certificate of origin online. This does not only reduce paperwork but also saves time and costs, as the certificate is issued free of charge. Exporters to SADC and COMESA Member States are therefore urged to register online using the e-certificate of origin system which can be accessed via the following link: https://ecoo.mra.mw. Registration is mandatory for any exporter wishing to apply for a certificate of origin and export goods under both the SADC and COMESA Trade Protocols. Daniel Daka COMMISSIONER GENERAL
