The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is informing all stakeholders that the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA World) has been successfully integrated with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) system as of 23rd June 2025. Since the integration, electronic data exchange has been conducted on a pilot basis and will continue until 30 September 2025.
This integration is part of MRA’s modernization programme following the upgrade to the latest version of ASYCUDA World, which supports electronic data interchange, real-time processing and seamless integration with international trade systems.
Through the IATA–ASYCUDA World integration, air cargo manifest data and related information will be transmitted electronically from airlines and couriers to Customs, thus eliminating delays and inconsistencies associated with manual submissions.
This is intended to ensure that Customs receives accurate and reliable information in advance in terms of cargo arrivals, thereby enhancing efficiency, transparency and compliance in Customs operations.
Against this background, the Authority wishes to further inform all stakeholders that effective 1st October 2025, the advance electronic transmission of air cargo data to Customs will be mandatory.
MRA will no longer accept manual information submissions unless accompanied by corresponding electronic data transmitted through the ASYCUDA World.
All stakeholders including airlines, couriers, freight forwarders and other cargo operators are encouraged to make the necessary preparations to comply with this requirement.
