On Tuesday, 26th August 2025, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) arrested Ms. Rhoda Ndovie (suspect). The arrest follows the investigations that were instituted following a tip-off report from members of the public on suspected commission of tax offences.
Preliminary investigations have established that the suspect is a customs Clearing Agent, trading as Limu Clearing. The suspect allegedly imported a consignment of goods into Malawi from the Republic of South Africa.
The documents of importation lodged at Dedza Border Station had the name Rhoda Ndovie - Chigomezgo and Bongani Investments as importer and Limu Clearing (declarant) as the clearing agent.
The investigations have revealed that the suspect allegedly falsified importation documents by altering the name of the actual importer, who is AFORD/DPP to Rhoda Ndovie - Chigomezgo and Bongani Investments.
The declarant (Limu Clearing) further falsified the quantity and value of the goods. The falsification is alleged to have resulted into evasion of taxes in excess of MK300 million.
Additionally, the investigations have revealed alleged evasion of other taxes including Value Added Tax (VAT) by the business entities operated by the suspect.
MRA further conducted a search at the premises of Mr. Enock Chihana where the goods were allegedly offloaded. The investigations are ongoing.
MRA will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and take appropriate legal action under the tax laws where evidence of wrongdoing is established.
