MRA drills Catholic Institute CDSS Students on Taxation

As one way of promoting voluntary tax compliance among future taxpayers, the Corporate Affairs Division in consultation with the Revenue Divisions earlier this month made tax presentations to students at Catholic Institute CDSS (CI CDSS) in Blantyre.

In her welcome remarks, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Mhango, thanked MRA for explaining and clarifying tax issues that are examinable adding that these will help the students prepare well for the examinations and do well.

During the presentations, Charles Maleta from Domestic Taxes and Naomi Paseli drilled the students on areas such the importance of tax registration, calculation of taxes and duty, the need to demand fiscal receipt, challenges facing the Authority and how these are being addressed, among other areas.

Maleta and Paseli then urged the students to ensure that they become good role models after finishing school so that the majority of Malawians become tax compliant.

The tax presentations attracted close to 300 form two and four students.

Making her last remarks, Hilda Mkandawire from the Corporate Affairs Division informed the students and staff of the school that MRA has a fully-fledged schools programme which is aimed at educating the youth on the importance of taxes to national development so that they become compliant in future.

The MRA schools’ programme last year attracted a delegation from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) who came to Malawi to learn how it is implemented and managed.
