Look out for features to verify EFD receipts

A fiscal receipt, also known as EFD receipt, is a detailed sales slip generated by Electronic Fiscal Devices and issued to customers as proof that a purchase has taken place.

These receipts are issued in all Value Added Tax (VAT) registered businesses. Besides issuing fiscal receipts, all VAT registered businesses are required by law to visibly display a VAT Registration Certificate

Consumers have an obligation to demand an EFD receipt from all VAT registered shops. Demanding a fiscal receipt is just one step into making sure that correct VAT revenue is collected.

The most important activity after getting the receipt is to verify that it contains right information. There have been a number of instances where a consumer is issued a fiscal receipt that reflects wrong details from a transaction. Consumers should check and verify that the amount paid correspond with the amount printed on the fiscal receipts.

Consumers need to look out and verify the following important features on the fiscal receipt;

· An MRA logo

· List and price of each item

· Amount of money paid

· Amount of VAT deducted

· Date and time of purchase.

If you have been issued an EFD receipt with wrong information don’t hesitate but report to Deloite Tip Offs anonymous on toll-free line 847 for Airtel, Access and TNM numbers and 8000 0847 on MTL numbers or the nearest MRA office.
