MSMEs encouraged to register for Presumptive Tax

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has appealed to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Phalombe, Mulanje, and Thyolo to register for Presumptive Tax.

The call was made by the Manager Block Management System (BMS), Hlupekile Msyali, when MRA conducted a series of meetings with MSMEs in the three districts.

Opening one of the meetings at Chiringa trading centre, Phalombe, Msyali informed the participants that the Government wants many Malawians to access businesses from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) but for one to achieve this he/she should be registered for tax.

“This is why I am appealing to you all to register for Presumptive Tax and win big tenders from the Government and grow your business portfolios,” she added.

Msyali went on to say that the tax is very easy to operate because one does not need an accountant to process business accounts for their business and as such you save a lot of money.

Speaking on behalf of other participants at the meeting, Patrick Sitole, assured MRA that many people in the district will register for the tax as advised and asked MRA to arrange for a date and venue where registration would be conducted.

He further commended MRA for conducting civic education on Presumptive Tax in the district and other places which he said will help in allaying misconceptions people have on taxes.

Over the past two weeks, MRA has been conducting sensitization meetings in the three districts and covered many places such as Phalombe Boma, Thyolo Boma, Mulanje border and trading centres like Luchenza, Bvumbwe, Nkando, Migowi, Chitakale, Makwasa and Goliyati, among others.
