The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) would like to remind all importers, distributors and the public that, in accordance with the Customs & Excise (Excise Tax Stamps) Regulations, applications for excise tax stamps should be made, through the Kalondola (Excise tax stamp) system, at least forty-five (45) days before importation or, in the case of small-scale importers, at least seventy-two (72) hours before importation.
Importers are also reminded that excise tax stamps are collected from designated SICPA warehouses located in Blantyre (Sharma House, Ginnery Corner), Lilongwe (MRA Satellite office, Century City Mall) and Mzuzu (MRA Domestic Taxes office).
Importers can affix the excise stamps at the border or at their premises inland. Importers who wish to affix the tax stamps at the border shall make their own arrangements to have the tax stamps available at the border at the time of importation.
The Authority is further advising all importers that, effective 1st March, 2025, the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) and Kalondola (Excise tax stamp) system will be integrated to streamline import declarations and excise tax stamps requirements for imports. With this integration, all import declarations for excisable products that require affixation of excise tax stamps under the regulations will only be processed after the importer has applied for the corresponding tax stamps in the Kalondola system.
We thank you for your cooperation as we work together to increase efficiencies and improve service delivery under the Kalondola regime.
