The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has handed over prizes to winning schools and students in the MRA Quiz Competition.
The Authority handed over the prizes at Chichiri, Zingwangwa, Stella Maris and Njamba Secondary Schools in Blantyre on Monday, 23rd October 2023.
Chichiri
Secondary School emerged as the
winner of the quiz competition and received K2.5 million, a branded notice
board, two mobile chalkboards and 16 Social Sciences textbooks.
The participating students from the school, Taonga
Masebo, Sumayya Muhamad, Blessings Kasije and Alinafe Chirwa received
individual prizes of a branded school bag, a scientific calculator, a
mathematical instrument, a dictionary and K100,000 each.
Zingwangwa
Secondary School were the runners-up
and received K1.5 million, a branded notice board, two mobile chalkboards and 16
Social Sciences textbooks. Takudzwa Ngoma, Andrew Chagoma, Tania Mangulama, and
Khadijah Ahmed received a branded school bag, a scientific calculator, a mathematical
instrument, a dictionary and K70,000 each.
Stella
Maris Secondary School
finished third in the competition and received K500,000, a branded notice board
and two mobile chalkboards. Ndagha Kayira, Upile Kumlinde, Racheal Ngulube and
Comfort Chalira received individual prizes, including a scientific calculator, a
mathematical instrument, a dictionary, and K50,000 each.
Njamba
Secondary School emerged fourth
and received a branded notice board and a mobile chalkboard. Additionally, the four
participating students from the school received a mathematical instrument and a
dictionary. The students are Shilo Nzobalinda, Charles Jackson, Linly
Mwakiseghile and Ekhari Chimaliro.
The MRA Quiz Competition was organised to promote
the learning of taxation in schools and identify knowledge gaps among learners
on the subject.
The competition took place in November 2022 and included 16 secondary schools, eight from Blantyre and eight from Lilongwe. Taxation is an examinable subject at the national level.
