MRA hosts RILO meeting in Lilongwe

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is hosting the 15th Regional Intelligence Liaison Office (RILO) National Contact Points (NCP) meeting in Lilongwe from 24th October to 26th October 2016. The meeting with funding from WCO has brought together seven (7) countries including Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Burundi, Swaziland, Burundi, Mozambique and the host Malawi. 

The 15th RILO meeting seeks to enable members to share information, review annual enforcement activities and update one another on the trends of illicit trade taking place within the region.

Opening the meeting on behalf of the Commissioner General, Deputy Commissioner General, Roza Mbilizi, called upon the participants to share experiences and information about illicit trade to learn from each other in order to discuss improved ways of building intelligence data. She further stressed that the Malawi Government was very committed in dealing with the issue of illicit trade.

Besides tax administrators, the meeting has also gathered local law enforcement agencies who jointly work with MRA to fight against illicit trade. These agencies referred to as The National Touch Points include the Malawi Bureau of Standards, Financial Intelligence Unit, Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board, Malawi Police—Interpol section and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
RILO has 19 member countries.
