The
Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently made a presentation at the 19th
Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) conference in Mangochi.
Th presentation centred on the newly legislated Tax
Administration Act (TAA) and the Revenue Appeals Tribunal Act (RATA).

Kambuwa, informed the participants that the new law seeks to harmonize
provisions of different acts such as the Income Tax, VAT Act, Customs &
Excise and others and also ensures fair and speedy handling of tax objections
and appeals made against MRA.
‘’The implementation of TAA and RATA levels the
playing field as it has provisions that safeguard the interests of both the taxpayer
on one hand and MRA on the other,’’ she hinted.

ensure adequate taxpayer education to explain and clarify the new law to the masses
to enable them make informed decisions on the same.
