The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is informing all Customs Clearing Agents and the business community that licenses for Customs Agents for the year beginning 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020, are due for renewal.
MRA is, therefore, advising those interested to renew their licenses by submitting their application to the Authority, starting from 1st November 2019 to 30th November 2019.
Kindly, note that Customs Agents licenses will be issued upon fulfillment of the requirements as stipulated under Regulation 129 of the Customs & Excise Act as below:
a) The General Customs Agent must have demonstrated the ability to process not less than an average of 20 declarations per month
b) Private Customs Agents must have made payment of duties of not less than K50 million over the period of 12 months
c) The Customs Agent must have resources to operate a Remote Direct Trader Input
d) Should have maintained good compliance record relating to tax laws and regulations
e) Not made transaction errors of more than 30% that affected or would have affected the amount of revenue collected
f) Should pay a non-refundable application fee of Ten Thousand Kwacha (MK10,000.00)
Please, note that applications should be accompanied by a valid Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC), valid certificate of registration or incorporation and names of shareholders of the company, if any, three CVs of key personnel and must have at least three years’ experience in the clearing industry and a clearing certificate (shipping) obtained from a recognizable institution.
Those Clearing Agents who fail to submit their application by 30th November 2019 will not be considered to operate as a Customs Clearing Agent.
Furthermore, Clearing and Forwarding Agents with outstanding declarations and/or unacquited T1s will have their licenses withheld until all outstanding issues are resolved.
